SESSION 1


CONDITIONAL SENTENCES


Conditional sentences are statements that can discuss from natural laws to hypothetical situations and their consequences.


STRUCTURE: Complete conditional sentences contain a conditional clause (often referred to as the if-clause) and the consequence:


CONDITION + RESULT


CAUSE + EFFECT


This would be its logical order. We need a condition first to obtain a result. This is similar to the cause and effect process we find in nature. That's why we tend to introduce the "If clause" first because it expresses the condition or the cause.

1. Then go to page 90 and do exercises 1-3.

1. Read this article about the origin of Halloween and answer these questions:


  • What's the meaning of the word Halloween?

  • Why do people celebrate Halloween on October 31?

  • Why do they dress up like monsters, ghosts, zombies, etc that day?

  • What's the story of trick or treating?


What comes to your mind when you think of bats? Maybe you relate them to vampire films or the transmission of illnesses. The truth is that bats have a bad rap. There are many misconceptions about these cute animals. In fact, you will discover that bats are really vital for our daily lives!

FCE READING TEST




SOME TIPS FOR THE EXAM:

  • Read the titles well. Don't ignore them, they give you quite a lot of information.

  • Read the examples, but don't do them.

  • What about spelling? It is super important in this part.

  • Time management: whizz through questions where you know/don’t know the answer - that will give you more time to spend on other parts of the exam. First, the parts where you have to write words, then the multiple choice questions. An easy order would be:
