Hi students! Welcome to our virtual classroom. You will have to check this blog everyday. I will give you some guidelines about the work and the contents of the last units. Today we are going to revise the contents in Unit 5. The main grammar point is present perfect continuous as opposed to present perfect simple.
The present perfect is a verb tense which is used to show that an action has taken place once or many times before now or that a situation has not changed till so far.
1. I have attended German lessons …….x.....x.....x....x....x....NOW; an action has been repeated.
2. I have lived in Madrid since 2001 ____________________NOW; a situation has not changed.
3. I have slipped on a banana skin ...x......……......…...…….NOW; there is a consequence in the present: I have a broken leg.
The form: HAVE/HAS + PAST PARTICIPLE (-ed for regular verbs, third column for irregular)
Statement: You have seen that movie many times
Question: Have you seen that movie many times?
Negative: You have not seen that movie many times
Time Expressions that appear with present perfect:
The exact time the action happened is not important but we can specify a little saying, for example, in the last week, in the last year, this week, this month, so far, up to now, etc.
For : I have known Peter for five years (period of time)
Since: I have known Peter since 2015 (starting point)
Just: I have just met Peter (a recent event)
You never use AGO with Present Perfect. It is only used with Past Simple:
I met you five years ago.
Please DON'T use expressions like "since five years ago", a literal translation from Spanish "desde hace"
