WHAT'S YOUR PET PEEVE?

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

...I hope the answer is positive.

1. Do you know the difference between feeling and emotion? One can be used instead of the other sometimes but they are not complete synonyms. Feelings are more sensorial while emotions are more psychological. Look up these two terms, feeling and emotion, in a dictionary and write down an example of each in your glossary.

2. Today we will deal with anger. What do you think? Is it a feeling or an emotion?

We almost always feel something else first before we get angry. That's why anger is called a secondary emotion, it protects ourselves from or cover up other vulnerable feelings like fear.

Now do FUNCTIONS (ex. 1 & 2 ) : Expressing feelings, anger on page 129 from your books.

3. A term related to anger is Pet Peeve. This is an American expression that was coined in the early 20th c. and it's an informal way to say that something irritates you the most.

Watch Tom & Jerry's episode "Pet Peeve" (1954) and answer these questions in your notebook:

  • What are Tom the cat and Spike the dog doing when the story starts?

  • What do they overhear? What's their pet peeve?

  • What's George and Joan's decision?

  • How do Tom and Spike react?

  • When they see their reaction , what deal do George and Joan make and how is Jerry the mouse implied in it?

4. Now, what's your biggest pet peeve? Explain. Write a 50 word paragraph in your notebook.

5. To finish with, do Phrases for Fluency, exercises 1 and 2 and expressions with make on page 129.

Thanks for still being there! Take care!
