1ºESO TEXT TYPES AND PERSPECTIVE

Updated: Jul 5, 2024

Hallabaloo! Are you still there?

Let's go for text types and the concept of perspective:

According to Merrian-Webster Dictionary perspective is "the capacity to view things in their true relations or relative importance"

People tend to have different perspectives about the same fact because there are other aspects that influence in the way we see things, for example, our state of mind. If we are tired or sad we will probably see things differently.

Previous knowledge also alters our perspective, culture, history of experience play an important role in our perspective.

Example: "Is the glass half empty or half full?"

We can't confuse perspective with point of view.

Point of view is defined as the position from which something is considered or evaluated. Have a look at the following images:

If I turn the image and see it from a different point of view it's easier for me to do it:

How does your perspective and point of view influence in the telling of a story?

3. ONCE THAT YOU HAVE SEEN THE EXAMPLES, retell the story from GRANDMA's perspective. Write it in your notebook and send it to me.

3. But, what does perspective have to do with text types?

Well, an author should select his point of view based on the message he wants to give, the reader he is addressing and the type of text he is writing. The writer must choose one perspective and continue the same perspective throughout the text. If you change your perspective you can confuse and distract the reader.

4. To see different types of texts and perspectives , do exercises on PAGE 70 in your notebook and, please, send them to me.

I hope you enjoyed today's class. Enjoy!
