Welcome back! Hope you enjoyed your holidays!
We will start Unit 12 CITIZEN Z B1, this year's last unit. It's called Playing by the Rules.
1. What comes up to your mind when you think of rules? Are homework or housechores in your to-do list?
Rules don't seem very popular. Even for adults, they are very difficult to follow sometimes. When rules are clear enough, we commomly break the rules to test the limits or simply because we forget. But everybody agrees on the fact that they are necessary. Therefore, logical consequences are a way to help fix problems that result from your words and actions when you forget rules.
2. Look at page 131 and answer the three questions in your notebooks.
3. Growing up is more than learning the rules. It means learning which rules you can legitimately break, for example, rules that restrict the freedom to be oneself, like "You can't be friends with X" or "You must be home at 10". Do you remember any time when you broke the rules? Complete this quiz in your notebook.
Which rule did you choose to break?
Explain the events that led up to your breaking this rule.
Why do you think it is important to follow this rule?
What do you think the consequence should be for breaking this rule?
How do you plan to regain trust after breaking this rule?
What other choices could you have made besides breaking this rule?
List all of the individuals that were affected by your behavior?
Write a 50-word apology to the person(s) most affected by your behavior.
4. Click on this link, to read about Discilpline in UK schools. Do the three activities at the end of the page.
Thanks!
