1ºESO Planting the Apple Tree after William Cullen Bryant

Updated: Jul 5

Hi mates!

Today we will read some poetry, April is here and with it the mood for it. We will be reading Planting the Apple Tree after William Cullen Bryant by Steven Watts.

1. Listen to the audio while reading the poem:

2. Who was William Cullen Bryant? Click on the link to learn more and write the main facts in your notebook.

There's a popular saying that says you have to plant a tree, write a book and have a child before you die. It was José Martí, a Cuban poet who wrote that back in the 19th c.

They will live long after us, it's your legacy and makes you somehow immortal.

We have been dealing with the topic of environment for about two weeks. You have learnt a lot about nature and our eco footprints. One way to go green, or become a little immortal, would be to plant some seeds in your garden or a flowerpot in your balcony.

4. But you can also become a writer! Write a short poem on spring and send it to me.

We will leave having children for later...much later, I hope :)

Enjoy!
